01:04-01:09
So before we get into the news and the questions I got the the sonos
01:09-01:12
Rome to review for the website
01:12-01:17
so the sonos Rome is I don’t know if you guys remember the I hate to say the word but the the
01:17-01:21
The echo
01:22-01:26
If you remember the echo dot you guys remember that it was echoes
01:26-01:29
Portables it was a amazon’s portable
01:29-01:35
Speaker that had a battering into it and you could push the button and then actually they got rid of the button
01:35-01:38
You can get in there and they know it would be over the over the battery
01:38-01:43
You could say hey madam a play whatever they this is similar to that
01:43-01:47
But it’s made by sonos so the sound quality is really amazing
01:47-01:51
Fairly long battery life. I do really like that
01:51-01:57
I had it outside the other day and we had it. We’re running it almost the entire good portion of the time
01:57-02:03
We’re out there and things still had some quite a bit of battery left. So I like I like that
02:03-02:05
It definitely has much better sound
02:05-02:10
Than an echo and any of the the echo
02:10-02:17
Portable devices. I mean the sound quality is is much much better. I would expect something like that from sonos obviously and
02:19-02:24
Comes in a bunch of different colors. I just got the black one because that’s just what I liked
02:24-02:29
So but you know it is waterproof. So if you’re out by the pool, no problem there
02:29-02:33
It is air play compatible as well. So in other words if you wanted to
02:33-02:36
You know play, you know if you wanted to just play, you know
02:36-02:41
If you wanted to just see or listening to something on Apple music and you just wanted to or Spotify
02:41-02:44
And you just wanted to send it over to the device. You could do that
02:45-02:49
Mostly all of sonos is new speakers are a drop any play compatible anyway
02:49-02:54
Like I said, you have a voice neighbors. You can say hey sonos and I’ll play the music
02:54-02:56
You do have a Bluetooth capability
02:56-03:00
So if you’re not you can use it on Wi-Fi or you can go ahead and use it
03:00-03:02
Bluetooth if you don’t have any Wi-Fi available
03:02-03:06
They say it’s drop resistant. I wouldn’t drop it
03:06-03:10
But you could does that button controls on the top says 10 hours of battery life
03:10-03:12
But I don’t like I said, I’m not sure about that
03:12-03:17
Like I said, we use it the other day and we were blasting it pretty hard and I
03:17-03:21
Mean, I mean, it’s like quite a bit of battery left, but we were out there for 10 hours
03:21-03:24
Well, I imagine if you had a full blast, I don’t know if it would go the whole 10 hours
03:24-03:30
But again, that’s that’s how they measure sound. I don’t know how they you know, I don’t know how sonos measures
03:30-03:34
Battery life. So I don’t know if it’s on max volume or not, but I
03:34-03:38
Guess it is but it’s IP67 so it is waterproof
03:38-03:41
So if you’re by the pool nothing to worry about like I said
03:41-03:45
You can play you can use it. I use it just right through this right through the Spotify app
03:45-03:50
You can use a sonos app. You can you know or you can air drop it if you’re on Bluetooth
03:50-03:53
But you might want I don’t know if you’re gonna want you, you know, you might not have to even air drop it
03:53-03:59
But you know, I like I said, it does work on Wi-Fi. I was using on wireless someone a little further away from the house
03:59-04:02
I actually had it on Bluetooth. It does work pretty well
04:02-04:07
It’s a pretty nice device. It’s pretty nice. It’s well made. You can tell it’s quality made obviously it’s so nice
04:08-04:11
You know, it’s like a little triangle device. It’s actually pretty neat
04:11-04:17
Like I said the sound quality is much better than anything I’ve seen from Bose or from
04:17-04:21
Any of those things it does pair with the other devices we went up on the porch
04:21-04:26
I did want to test that so if you’re on Wi-Fi, it does pair with your other devices because we do have another device
04:26-04:30
That’s plugged in on the on the porch. You know, it does work with that
04:30-04:34
And like I said, I mean overall, I think it’s a really good device
04:34-04:39
I do like the hey sonos if you don’t if you don’t like if you want to use something like Google or
04:39-04:41
Matimea
04:41-04:43
You could go ahead. They do have those built-in as well
04:43-04:48
You just have to go ahead in the settings and set it so that’s it like I said, it does work with all the other devices
04:48-04:51
Overall, I think it was a great device now
04:51-04:57
This is the small one the little one. I’d like that. I like the small one personally because I thought was more portable
04:57-05:01
They do have the other one which is the the
05:02-05:05
Move which is there their next kind of step up in that line with the battery
05:05-05:12
The move obviously is going to get surprisingly enough for as big as the move is it only gets an extra hour of battery
05:12-05:14
So you go from 10 to 11
05:14-05:17
The water resistant drop resistant
05:17-05:23
Pretty much everything the other one is except for you get a little bit longer battery life
05:23-05:28
And and that’s pretty much about it. Like I said, the battery life is the big thing
05:28-05:30
Like I said, because you get the extra
05:31-05:33
You get the extra
05:33-05:38
You’re looking at our battery life. It’s supposed to be it’s bigger. So I’m sure the sound is bigger
05:38-05:42
Doesn’t come in as many colors by the way. It only comes with black and silver. I did notice that
05:42-05:48
But you know, like I said, it does look like a good new like a good device. Like I said, I would recommend the
05:48-05:51
Depends on what you want to do for me personally
05:51-05:56
I like the little the little Rome only because I can put it in my bag and take it with me in places like that
05:56-05:59
The move is a little bit little bit bigger
05:59-06:02
Also bigger price points you’re going from 145
06:02-06:05
$145 to
06:05-06:08
$319 so it’s a big jump in price too
06:08-06:14
But the move I mean, I’m imagined by a bigger sound. I don’t have a move but I do imagine like it does have much bigger sound
06:14-06:17
You know, it’s a lot bigger device
06:17-06:20
at least double the size so
06:20-06:24
You know, like I said, I went with the the Rome
06:24-06:27
Because I thought it was a device I could use
06:27-06:33
Actually, it’s actually even more on sales only 143 was 145 when I bought it now. It’s done a 143
06:33-06:35
So it did drop a little bit in price again
06:35-06:41
But like I said, I mean, I think if you’re if you’re going to you want a little portable device bring with you with 10 hours of battery life
06:41-06:47
To be honest with you, I think for the price difference. I would definitely go to Rome because you know all the same features
06:47-06:50
The move is much bigger
06:50-06:54
Definitely is not as I don’t think it’s portable because if that is it is so big
06:54-06:56
It’s gonna take longer to charge as well
06:57-07:01
And maybe that’s why it only gets a shower better life because it’s so much bigger and so much more to move
07:01-07:07
So but like I said, I did get the room and I would highly recommend this for anybody who wants a small little wireless speaker
07:07-07:10
I have used almost all of them folks. I’ve used the Bose one. I’ve used the
07:10-07:17
I’ve used the the pill by by beats. I’ve used all of them and then I really honestly can say I think this is the
07:17-07:20
I really think this one has the most features
07:20-07:22
for the price
07:22-07:27
Because I know some of the this is actually cheaper than some of the some of the ones from beats and some of the ones from
07:27-07:31
Bose and I really think you’re getting more out of it personally
07:31-07:35
You get a lot more features and a lot better sound quality because I’m a big one for sound quality as you know
07:35-07:40
For that price. So I really recommend that and with any sonos device
07:40-07:46
You know works with Apple music and Spotify, but I will say personally I recommend Spotify only because
07:46-07:51
Spotify it works. I think a little bit better with the sonos than Apple music does now
07:51-07:53
It’s not saying Apple music doesn’t
07:53-07:58
Obviously it is only using the sonos app. It’ll go through and index the whole Apple library, but
07:58-08:03
With sonos, I don’t have it’s an extra app. I mean I use the sonos app too, but I mean with with
08:03-08:06
With with Spotify, I don’t have to I’m in the app
08:06-08:10
I can just click what I want to listen to and it just doesn’t I don’t have to worry about an extra app
08:10-08:13
So I do recommend sonos Spotify
08:13-08:18
But I will say this and I really mean this unless Spotify gets to act together
08:19-08:26
As far as sound quality goes you’re going to get better sound quality with Apple music because Apple music has lost this audio
08:26-08:31
Which does work through a Spotify device through a sonos device
08:31-08:36
So in that case if you’re worried about sound quality, which I am
08:36-08:40
I would go with Apple music. I’m not gonna lie
08:40-08:46
I I from time to time have subscribed to Apple music because I wanted to listen to something in
08:46-08:50
in lossless audio format and the sonos does lossless audio and
08:50-08:53
You know, you can do it with Apple music
08:53-08:56
You cannot do it with Spotify Spotify said they’re working on Spotify HD
08:56-09:01
But they are at least a year behind Apple with that and I just don’t understand why but
09:01-09:08
Like I said, what I will do what I will say though is if you are somebody who does want to listen to high-quality music
09:08-09:11
I would really recommend the
09:11-09:18
Sonos radio for 799 only works on sonos devices unfortunately, but the sound quality is absolutely
09:18-09:26
Amazing. I actually tested out sonos radio the other day and actually will say the sound quality is amazing
09:26-09:33
It’s better than any radio you’re gonna get from tune in or even from a series exam. It is amazing lossless quality
09:33-09:38
Radio if radio Apple music, I wouldn’t know if I’d spend the money because you already have losses
09:38-09:42
You just pick a playlist or Apple one has tons of
09:42-09:46
Playlists that you can or radio stations you could pick that are lossless
09:46-09:53
But if you don’t if you have Spotify and you really really want lossless audio radio or if you’re somebody that
09:53-10:00
You know really wants good radio good radio and doesn’t want to spend a lot of money on something like Spotify or Apple music
10:00-10:04
Sonos radio is it’s got a niche there. I really think they do because
10:04-10:11
High-quality audio at a you know a really affordable price and people that have sonos is sometimes just want to listen to music
10:11-10:12
They don’t they don’t want to have
10:12-10:19
You know, they don’t care about Spotify or music. They just want to listen to music and I think I really think for high quality high-def
10:19-10:22
quality audio
10:22-10:27
You’re definitely going if you if you if you’re just a casual listener
10:27-10:31
I think I think sonos radio might actually have a have a niche there
10:31-10:39
So there might be something to look into for 799 a month not the cheapest radio obviously, but it is definitely high quality
10:39-10:42
You know lossless audio I
10:42-10:45
Will say you can listen to Pandora through sonos and stuff like that
10:45-10:50
So I mean, you know, there are free version free radio services out there
10:50-10:53
You could use I heart radio has a lot of free stations stuff like that
10:53-10:58
But I was almost radio is basically designed for those of you that you bought a sonos for the sound quality
10:58-11:01
You want, you know quality rate quality sounding radio. So
11:01-11:06
Like I said, that’s what no, that’s what that’s kind of the story with that
11:06-11:09
so like I said getting into the
11:09-11:12
Getting into the news here a
11:12-11:18
Little bit and then I’m gonna go through the questions last not that I not that I have to but
11:18-11:25
I’m gonna do the questions at the end there just because I think it’ll be they’ll be fun to do the questions at the end
11:25-11:27
so apparently
11:28-11:29
Tic-Tac
11:29-11:33
went ahead and partnered we’re not partnered but is using a
11:33-11:35
Oracle as
11:35-11:40
They’re they’re back end apparently tick tock has to keep the American data
11:40-11:46
Obviously tick tock if you don’t know the chain is a Chinese company. They have to keep American data in America
11:46-11:49
so they have went ahead and gone with
11:49-11:56
Oracle and a lot of people that if you don’t know who Oracle is you probably want their database back in but
11:57-11:59
their other biggest customer is is zoom and
11:59-12:07
Like I said Oracle as well. I think they’re partnering. I think they’re trying to actually get Walmart too, but you know Oracle’s always been kind of the
12:07-12:16
Database provider that’s always been kind of on site now. They’re moving to the cloud like Microsoft is and stuff like that and Amazon
12:16-12:18
but the
12:18-12:21
Oracle trying to land big clients and tick tocks a big one for them
12:21-12:25
Zoom was a big one for them as well pre pre pandemic and all that so they are
12:25-12:31
But apparently your your data your tick tock data user data is has to be stored
12:31-12:36
In America for in America to because of those laws that they passed so
12:36-12:40
Yeah, that’s gonna be housed in America here at
12:40-12:45
in Oracle data centers, which I mean, you know
12:45-12:50
They have written they have to follow American regulations even though they’re a China company, but they’re
12:50-12:53
They have there have been
12:54-12:58
reports over the last couple weeks that while they’re moving the data over to Oracle there was
12:58-13:04
Information discovered that Chinese government was looking at things that were recorded and stuff like that. So
13:04-13:12
Yeah, I don’t know it’s tick tock data, so I’m not sure how how much of it I really worry about but
13:12-13:14
That was something that was in the news
13:14-13:17
the other day
13:17-13:18
so
13:18-13:20
just to
13:20-13:24
Be you know be careful to post on there if you’re talking about on there because it is being watched
13:24-13:29
I wouldn’t put anything like credit card numbers or anything. I may just stupid videos who cares
13:29-13:33
But I wouldn’t put any information in there like if you’re messaging a friend ears on tick tock
13:33-13:35
I wouldn’t go ahead and shoot, you know
13:35-13:38
Shoot over your credit card information to him right like that
13:38-13:44
So just something to something to be careful about and I wouldn’t tell me anything confidential that you don’t want somebody to know about
13:44-13:47
On tick tock. So it’s just something to be wary of
13:48-13:51
Most kids probably you know just this is funny videos, but
13:51-13:54
Just something to be careful of
13:54-13:57
Microsoft the other day announced that
13:57-14:01
Pats Tuesdays were to keep going on a bunch of people
14:01-14:06
There was reports and rumors of Pete was weak saying that
14:06-14:12
Microsoft’s not gonna be doing Pats Tuesday anymore Pats Tuesday obviously always the second Tuesday of every month
14:12-14:15
but
14:15-14:20
Apparently Microsoft says it’s clink. That’s fake and they will continue to go on with patch Tuesday
14:20-14:25
So nothing to worry about there as far as Microsoft patches
14:25-14:29
However
14:29-14:33
Microsoft the other day updated their store. We’re talking about something yet last week show about Microsoft store
14:33-14:36
but update over the weekend here they
14:36-14:40
Microsoft apparently has said that they are
14:40-14:46
Monitoring the store now for people that are charging for open source products. So
14:46-14:50
What they’re finding out people are doing on on Microsoft store is
14:50-14:54
People will go to like say jit hub and find open source projects
14:54-14:57
copy them and then package them and
14:57-15:05
Then put them up for sale on Microsoft store and that’s kind of against what open source is about you can charge somebody for something
15:05-15:07
That’s been licensed open source
15:08-15:13
as Microsoft finding them they’re taking them down but they’re asking people to report it if they if they see it and
15:13-15:18
My hair soft obviously working released the other day saying that people are gonna be get this taken down
15:18-15:20
And they might be suspended from the store if they’re doing this so
15:20-15:25
Not a great business practice as far as the people that are doing it
15:25-15:29
But I agree with Microsoft what they’re doing and taking it down. It’s not right
15:29-15:32
It’s somebody’s giving something away for nothing. You shouldn’t be taking it and charging for it
15:32-15:36
that’s not the way open source works at all actually but
15:37-15:39
Nice to see at least that they’re a
15:39-15:42
Microsoft enforcing it because it’s not right
15:42-15:47
Apple again with another as I call it battery gate
15:47-15:50
ZD net had an article the other day saying that
15:50-15:58
There’s new lawsuit against Apple for the 2016 2017 scandal of the iOS 10 – with
15:58-16:01
battery performance issues
16:01-16:05
That obviously was the six of 6s the five the first iPhone SE
16:06-16:12
Now they’re saying it’s the iPhone 7 7 plus 8 8 plus and the X models now all apparently had
16:12-16:17
known battery issues with the update and Microsoft did nothing about it
16:17-16:20
Apple did nothing about it
16:20-16:22
and you know
16:22-16:27
They’re gonna they’re gonna have to pay down apparently they’re gonna have to pay damages of 950 million
16:27-16:32
For I think it was 25 million people said that they were affected by this
16:33-16:36
You know they agreed Apple agreed to settle the lawsuit out of court
16:36-16:40
But they’re even paying out like $25 per iPhone
16:40-16:43
You know not a big let me to big some of money
16:43-16:49
But they’re looking at my apple to settle out of court something that could take in it’s been a lot of press a lot of money
16:49-16:52
Actually, he’s just kind of a bump in the road
16:52-16:58
For them if you remember Apple did eventually roll out $25 or $29 or 30 bucks
16:58-17:01
battery replacement for those
17:01-17:05
And it did like 11 million battery places, but they think a lot of people didn’t even know about it
17:05-17:08
But anyway long story short
17:08-17:12
Apple obviously another issue with the batteries getting getting them a little trouble
17:12-17:18
But I will say this though about this about Apple in the batteries because I’ve brought this up a bunch of times
17:18-17:25
You know there was always speculation for what a few years that Apple was slowing the phones down when the new ones came out
17:25-17:27
and were they
17:27-17:29
not
17:29-17:33
It’s a gray area because they weren’t necessarily slowing down the phones
17:33-17:39
But they knew that the new software they it was like, okay, we’re only worried about the new phones
17:39-17:43
This is a software optimized for the new phones. Yes. Well, don’t worry about the old phones
17:43-17:45
People are just upgraded if there’s causing of an issue
17:45-17:48
That was always kind of their attitude towards it
17:48-17:51
and it’s not right
17:51-17:54
but that’s what they were actually doing and
17:57-17:59
You know now it’s coming back to bite them a little bit
17:59-18:04
But again, we look at how much money Apple makes like what if I think 53 billion they said they made last quarter on iPhones
18:04-18:09
You know this this is just bump up in the row, but
18:09-18:16
The way they were handling it wasn’t really right. I don’t agree with it. It was a different era back then it was the Steve Jobs era
18:16-18:22
Now it’s a Tim Cook era Cook is trying to a lot of people say Apple lost their soul when stopped jobs left
18:22-18:24
but I think I
18:24-18:26
think cook is trying to
18:26-18:32
Cook’s done something that job didn’t he’s expanded the company. He’s changed the way the company is they change the way the company handles things
18:32-18:36
And I really think they’re a better company because of it
18:36-18:40
I remember years ago calling Apple Tech support when I was doing
18:40-18:44
Enterprise level stuff and you’d call them and they were like well, you’re using our product wrong
18:44-18:46
What’s kind of their attitude towards me?
18:46-18:49
So things have changed a lot now into the cook era, but
18:49-18:54
So sometimes how Apple really operated the fact that they knew that they had an issue
18:54-18:59
But they just cared about selling the new phones and they didn’t care about you know if their old users were affected
18:59-19:02
Like I said, not you know, not something I would
19:02-19:10
necessarily, you know, you know point a finger at and say, you know, I mean, they’re obviously the largest consumer company in the world now, but
19:10-19:15
You know, not the greatest business practices sometimes when it comes to these sorts of things they didn’t handle it, right?
19:15-19:18
We all remember the infamous Steve Jobs
19:20-19:25
Showing the iPhone 4 how it had a signal loss and everybody else’s phone has signal loss too. So
19:25-19:30
Again, you know, it’s the way Apple handles things. It’s just it’s a little bit
19:30-19:36
You know, it’s just it’s just the way it is. I mean there’s nothing you can do about it, but
19:36-19:39
You know, if you did have one of those phones you can get 25
19:39-19:42
But actually I was actually thinking about this
19:42-19:49
Myself because I went from the six to the six s because I kept having issues with the battery success six and six s to the seven
19:49-19:51
That’s seven s. So I should be maybe
19:51-19:58
Entitled to about a hundred bucks here. So I’m gonna have to actually look on the site and take a look what’s going on with with that
19:58-20:02
You know, I think I’ll eventually some point
20:02-20:06
So one thing I do want to one thing I do want to say is
20:06-20:10
I want to say a lot. Thanks. It’s got a lot of podcasts left, but
20:10-20:16
YouTube YouTube has announced that their shorts have 1.5 billion
20:16-20:18
monthly
20:18-20:24
Users those of you don’t know what YouTube short is. It’s the competitor for tiktok that YouTube rolled out
20:24-20:29
You know, I don’t I mean I see a lot of people watching
20:29-20:32
I see a lot of it being pushed on me when I go to youtube.com
20:32-20:39
I see this an error for shorts now that you can’t get rid of and I do I do shorts myself on my some of my gaming stuff
20:39-20:42
I do see the appeal of it. I think
20:42-20:48
YouTube as a company had to reevaluate how to handle things up those of you that don’t know how YouTube algorithm works
20:49-20:57
Their algorithm used to be the longer you stayed on a video and the longer your videos weren’t the longer people watched it
20:57-21:00
of hiring you in rank but
21:00-21:04
YouTube now with these shorts has had to kind of reevaluate the way they handle things that
21:04-21:07
Sometimes people may only watch three four five minutes of a video
21:07-21:12
They only need the part of the video that they need or the only need they only want to watch that short little clip
21:12-21:18
Whether male or so YouTube has had to kind of change a little bit the way they handle things while yes
21:18-21:26
Longer videos make you rank higher sometimes if people are willing to if you have somebody who’s putting up shorts all time
21:26-21:30
People are watching a lot of shorts that person should technically rank too because their shorts are being watched a lot
21:30-21:36
1.5 billion watches while it’s a big number. I still think
21:36-21:42
Well tiktok never really gave numbers, but I do think in comparison to tiktok. I don’t think that’s a huge number
21:42-21:46
I think it’s a big number, but I don’t know if it’s a huge number compared to
21:46-21:50
Tiktok again tiktok has really released numbers on that so
21:50-21:56
We know tiktok is a huge customer base as a huge fan base all over the world
21:56-22:01
And I think in this case YouTube is trying to play catch up a little bit here
22:01-22:07
This is one place where they never really went with short videos like this. They were always into the long
22:08-22:12
Form video of seven eight, you know 10 20 30 minutes
22:12-22:18
The short quick videos is a spot that they really didn’t have much
22:18-22:26
You know really much play, you know, they really didn’t have much of a foothold on and I think they are trying to play catch up with it. I
22:26-22:29
Do think that
22:29-22:32
tiktok itself I
22:32-22:37
Do think is is it well it is the most one of the most popular websites on the internet
22:38-22:43
You know YouTube had what one point was fall a little bit from grace, but YouTube’s definitely not going anywhere
22:43-22:50
You know when you look at YouTube versus things like Vimeo and stuff like that. I mean they pay they have a
22:50-22:57
Percent as tiny tiny, you know one percent of the market compared to YouTube which has a whole thing
22:57-23:01
So YouTube’s not going anywhere, but they’re trying to compete in this space and well, that’s a big number
23:01-23:06
You know, I still think when you compare it to
23:07-23:11
You know tick tock. Oh wait. No, I’m sorry that I did find something tick tock announced
23:11-23:16
They had one billion monthly users in September 2021. So that’s they have a billion users
23:16-23:20
And
23:20-23:27
You know, there’s YouTube is saying that their shorts are getting 1.5 billion logged in user actually visit so I
23:27-23:32
Don’t know. I mean it could have be competitive. Yes, but I think you’re comparing I think to a way
23:32-23:34
You’re kind of comparing apples and oranges a little bit
23:35-23:40
You know YouTube obviously already has that built-in fan base and maybe they’re catching while I’m watching this video
23:40-23:47
Whatever, I’ll catch a shorter – so I think that’s what they’re doing. I mean, I guess and not necessarily a bad thing
23:47-23:51
I eventually I eventually I think you’re going to see tick tock maybe get into the longer form stuff
23:51-23:56
To maybe take some of that away from YouTube. So I think it’s gonna be one of those situations
23:56-23:59
We’ll have to watch and see
23:59-24:02
So for
24:02-24:05
Those of you that are PlayStation people
24:05-24:12
PlayStation is gonna is actually taking on Xbox now with their new subscription service
24:12-24:18
They actually will PlayStation Plus actually went ahead and launched their you know, their service their plus service
24:18-24:20
It’s gonna compete with Xbox
24:20-24:26
They do have the basic level which costs $10 a month and that’s apparently you’re gonna only gonna get a few games
24:26-24:28
I think you get what?
24:28-24:32
It replaces the old PlayStation Plus, but it’s offering what two downloads games for month. Yeah
24:32-24:37
To download games from out and law and discounts on on on multiplayer games
24:37-24:43
Then you have the $15 a month which offers you four or five games. So I mean, it’s
24:43-24:51
You know, you have 18 month level which the 18 dollars per month level which gives you a few hundred classic games and
24:51-24:57
You know, I think that this is to be honest with you. I’m looking at this
24:57-24:59
I think this is actually nothing else a poor attempt to be honest with you
25:00-25:02
Trying to compete with Xbox because
25:02-25:07
Microsoft has owns a lot of the studios and they’re able to give people I mean, you know
25:07-25:09
What a hundred games a month with
25:09-25:14
With Xbox and you’re getting premium titles on some of them too
25:14-25:20
So I think this is a way of PlayStation trying to compete, but I don’t know if it’s gonna be I think they’re I
25:20-25:24
Don’t know if they really can to be honest with you in the space
25:24-25:27
It’s hard because you’re only getting me like granted
25:27-25:30
I know some people might say well, how many games you gonna play a month, but
25:30-25:35
When you’re looking at I have the choice of a hundred different games per month versus
25:35-25:40
You know, I get four or five games and then hundreds of classics. I I don’t know
25:40-25:45
We’ll have to remain in connect the weight and and see what happens
25:45-25:48
going forward
25:48-25:54
So something something else that was kind of interesting this week Microsoft Sunset Internet Explorer
25:55-26:02
Now, you know, probably none of us using an explorer anymore, but Microsoft Sunset it will not be as a 15th
26:02-26:04
It was no longer in service
26:04-26:08
And I kind of sad a little bit kind of because now edge is going to be taken over
26:08-26:13
So no more in an explorer and explore which is if you remember what Microsoft got sued for in the 90s or bundling it
26:13-26:15
is now no more so
26:15-26:22
We’re all gonna be on like I said, it’s either edge or nothing now. So like I said, it has been
26:23-26:26
Sunset, so there won’t be any issues of so if you’re still using Explorer go ahead and
26:26-26:29
update to
26:29-26:32
Update the edge because you’re not gonna be getting any more any more updates
26:32-26:35
Going forward
26:35-26:38
So something else I I found articles of me sent me
26:38-26:41
Friend of mine sent me that thought it was interesting
26:41-26:44
Adobe is planning to make a Photoshop on the web
26:44-26:50
Free for everybody. Apparently the company announced is testing a free version in Canada
26:52-26:55
Where you’re gonna see me like a freemium so I
26:55-27:01
Guess Adobe obviously always made products you had to pay for but apparently it’s gonna be like a freemium based
27:01-27:05
Product is not much really about it because the people are pretty tight
27:05-27:12
But apparently there’ll be they’re gonna be a freemium version of Photoshop on the web where you say, okay
27:12-27:15
You know, you want to do some things you can do it, but if you want to do a
27:15-27:19
Little more you might have to buy the full version of Photoshop
27:20-27:27
Not really, you know, not nothing new really there are tons of different photo apps that you know a freemium for the iPad and stuff
27:27-27:30
I that but this is kind of interesting because Adobe’s never kind of been in this space
27:30-27:32
And I guess they’re kind of realizing that well if we want to
27:32-27:36
Want to make it we’re gonna have if you want to be competitive in this space
27:36-27:39
We’re gonna have to do that so they are doing that now so that’s uh
27:39-27:43
That’s it’s only testing it in Canada right now, but it will be available
27:43-27:47
Well, maybe it depends it might they might just scrap it it might not be available in America
27:47-27:49
We’ll have to wait and see on that one
27:50-27:55
So news from a Roku we talked about Roku last week, but Roku now
27:55-28:01
Apparently you’re gonna be seeing shop shoppable ads from Walmart now on your Roku devices
28:01-28:03
So keep your eyes out for that
28:03-28:09
Roku announced that it’s in that it’s going to be doing a pilot program with Walmart to bring shoppable ads to Roku
28:09-28:12
You know, I hate to say this, but I think this is an attempt to
28:12-28:17
To get that older generation that’s used to shopping on TV
28:18-28:23
You know, nope, this isn’t there’s never really been a big a big market for this, but
28:23-28:27
you know, they’re they hate to say is that they’re looking at the
28:27-28:32
Walmart’s Walmart’s net Walmart wants to break into that. This is a way of them kind of getting a piece of that
28:32-28:35
QVC market
28:35-28:41
You know, you may have the the older generation or you know, that might be you know
28:41-28:43
They might have gotten so their family might have gotten them a streaming stick
28:43-28:48
And they watch a few things on Netflix or a few things on Amazon Prime and they flip over to Roku
28:48-28:51
To watch that and they see something and they might want to buy it. They’re comfortable buying online
28:51-28:54
I’m sorry console buying off TV. I
28:54-28:59
Don’t understand it. I’ve said this once I’ve said it before on other shows. I said it on my website
28:59-29:04
You know people that people assume that while I buy something off QVC
29:04-29:09
It’s safer than if I buy it online, but that you don’t know what that person on the phone is doing with that credit card number. So
29:09-29:15
But again, you know that generation feels it’s on the TV. It’s safe. So
29:16-29:20
You know, it’s that they’re they’re trying to I think they’re trying to break into that market
29:20-29:26
I get a little piece or little slice or maybe even start getting into that market. So they’re gonna be so that’s what they’re they’re doing
29:26-29:30
There hasn’t they’ve other companies have tried this with not much success
29:30-29:37
Amazon tried it. Well, they’re still trying it with their their devices, you know, Amazon a lot of times people don’t realize they sell them at
29:37-29:40
You know little to no cost
29:40-29:44
The streaming sticks and so that’s so they can get them in the house so they can try to sell you products with them
29:45-29:47
Don’t I’m not sure this is gonna work or not
29:47-29:52
But if Walmart, I mean, I’m sure that costing pardon I cost me Walmart a whole lot to do this
29:52-29:56
So I’m sure if they if they you know if they break that little
29:56-30:01
If they break in there and finally have something it’s it’s gonna be financially cost effective for them
30:01-30:03
So but again, I don’t think it’s gonna really
30:03-30:06
Make a huge difference
30:06-30:08
Those of us that use WhatsApp
30:08-30:10
myself included
30:10-30:13
They’re actually going to let you transfer your chat history now from Android iOS
30:13-30:17
You remember you couldn’t do that for the longest time. Well now you can so
30:17-30:20
I saw that piece the other day on the
30:20-30:25
Other news I thought that was a little bit interesting especially people like me that use I do use
30:25-30:31
WhatsApp quite a bit so I was kind of glad to see that not the Americans wish to Android
30:31-30:34
But I do have friends of mine that have always complained about that so I
30:34-30:37
Thought that was interesting
30:37-30:39
So Mozilla
30:39-30:41
Firefox will be
30:41-30:45
transforming the canine mail app into
30:45-30:48
Into Thunderbird for Android
30:48-30:55
Apparently Mozilla has hired the guy that makes the canine mail app and I guess it was a free app
30:55-30:59
I guess well they hired him and now he’s gonna be developing that for
30:59-31:03
Android and it’s always great to see an
31:03-31:07
Indie developer like this who develops a product
31:08-31:14
Kind of get get picked up by a larger company. It’s always great to see I really like seeing this because you know those guys
31:14-31:16
I mean I mean anytime you’re a
31:16-31:19
Indie developer or
31:19-31:25
You know a maintainer of an open source project. It’s a thankless job, you know
31:25-31:30
In those guys I really respect when they get picked up by his larger companies because they are doing
31:30-31:35
You know worked and not getting paid for they’re doing another goodness of their heart and they’re gonna get back to the community
31:35-31:37
And so it’s great to see these guys get picked up
31:37-31:41
By these companies I hope for his sake Mozilla, you know Mozilla’s had some rough times
31:41-31:44
Oh for his sake, you know things work out for Mozilla, but
31:44-31:49
You know like I said, it’s good to see somebody get picked up
31:49-31:55
So Lenovo is is offering a an Alexa powered smart clock
31:55-32:02
Looks pretty cool. Let’s get that fabric kind of look and feel to it that the pixels had
32:03-32:07
I don’t know. I’m not I mean I have the hub next to my bed
32:07-32:12
But I mean I don’t I mean I think that I think there are so many devices now
32:12-32:15
But I guess this is a nice little alarm clock
32:15-32:21
It’s not it’s a pretty cheaply priced at 49 nights and I have what I paid for the the home hub that’s next to my bed
32:21-32:27
So I think it’s cool device. I saw somebody somebody sent it to me on Twitter. That was kind of neat. So
32:27-32:31
Speaking of devices portals, I guess meta
32:32-32:36
Now there I guess they’ve I guess they’re gonna try to target now their
32:36-32:42
their displays towards businesses and and their their commercial product Facebook workspace, I
32:42-32:45
Don’t know if this is gonna work out or not. I don’t I think that
32:45-32:52
Meta hasn’t really done that well with these portals in the homes. I’ve reviewed one a while back on the site. I
32:52-32:59
Just I don’t say it. I I mean, I’m not saying they’re bad pox, but there’s such a limited and lack of
32:59-33:05
App support it’s reminding the portal reminds me of what the BlackBerry was when the iPhone came out
33:05-33:09
It’s just it just it was just it wasn’t it wasn’t able to compete in the space
33:09-33:15
Because it didn’t have the app support and I really think that’s kind of the same place where meta is right now. So
33:15-33:24
Yeah, I don’t know I’m you have to I don’t I get the market that meta is trying to
33:24-33:28
Get they’re trying to get that that older generation that doesn’t understand tech
33:28-33:34
Now you can put a device and you can scroll Facebook right on this thing and you can you know make us make a WhatsApp call
33:34-33:36
Whatever like that or or a Facebook message call
33:36-33:38
I mean, I think it’s pretty cool
33:38-33:41
But I don’t I would never need one because I have my phone in my hand
33:41-33:46
But I think I this is the generation of you know, I don’t need a smart
33:46-33:53
So I don’t need a cell phone era. So let’s okay. We can get this in the house so we get another active user. I
33:54-33:59
Imagine that meta is probably selling these things at a cost or just making a little bit
33:59-34:02
Because because they want to get because they know the market is gonna buy these things
34:02-34:06
So they’re trying their very best, but I think you know, I don’t know how many I mean
34:06-34:09
I know Facebook workspace a lot of people say it’s great product
34:09-34:11
I’ve never used it myself
34:11-34:14
But I know a lot of people say it’s great and I’d be curious to see
34:14-34:18
If Facebook has that many people using workspaces that they were willing to buy these things
34:18-34:19
I don’t think so
34:19-34:23
But you never know one thing I will say though. I I don’t know if
34:24-34:29
You know when you look at office 365 and G Suite, they’re kind of in the same competitive space. I
34:29-34:35
Don’t know if Facebook workspaces in that same realm. They don’t have any office
34:35-34:40
They don’t have any any word processing. They don’t have Excel. They don’t have so I mean, I again
34:40-34:43
That’s what I’ve from what I’ve read anyway. No, and I’ve never used the box
34:43-34:47
So I can’t properly judge it, but I just I don’t see it. I just I don’t but
34:47-34:53
Apparently they’re trying to target those sorts of businesses and I’d be interested to see how it
34:53-34:55
Makes out and if it even does
34:55-35:00
Frank you to be honest with him. I just I just don’t say I don’t think businesses are gonna want that
35:00-35:04
Especially with the way distractions aren’t stuff like that in the office. I mean, I think it’s just gonna be
35:04-35:10
And in most companies to be honest with once I mean some yes, I’m sure Facebook has their market with that
35:10-35:17
But most companies are using Slack or discord, I can’t imagine many people using workspaces
35:17-35:20
I just don’t say it teams big
35:20-35:27
I just there’s so many other competitors that are more known in the space and don’t have image issues like Facebook has
35:27-35:29
I just I can’t imagine it but
35:29-35:32
But it’s something
35:32-35:36
Snapchat plus apparently is going to be a new service
35:36-35:41
Not much is known yet
35:41-35:44
Apparently it’s only an internal testing
35:45-35:50
Like I said, it’s gonna be a subscription service is gonna be five bucks a month. We know that
35:50-35:55
But the company confirmed that they’re doing internal testing with it. I
35:55-36:04
They haven’t really announced what it is yet what it’s going to be. They’re just saying they’re working on a snap chat plus
36:04-36:09
From what people are saying
36:09-36:13
It could be
36:13-36:15
They’re saying it could be maybe like shows
36:15-36:19
It or something that it could be
36:19-36:23
Like a peddler for like Apple TV, which I doubt
36:23-36:26
It could be
36:26-36:28
Something with with no ads
36:28-36:33
We again, we don’t know a lot of people are saying this is coming because snap
36:33-36:38
It needs to make up revenue that they’re losing because of Apple’s privacy settings that came out
36:38-36:41
but
36:41-36:44
I don’t know what it’s gonna be. I can imagine it may be an ad thing
36:44-36:48
I think that would work. Maybe if you know can the I don’t know that they would do that like an ad base
36:48-36:52
Because I know that Facebook would never do that. So I don’t know if Snapchat would but
36:52-36:57
Maybe I don’t know but they’re saying it could be maybe some kind of audio content premium
36:57-37:00
I don’t know we don’t really know much about it yet, but we do know that
37:00-37:02
I’m more leaked to deal a day that they have had
37:02-37:05
They have gotten information that that’s gonna be
37:05-37:09
Service it could be something as simple as something like a content creation service
37:09-37:13
I know Twitter has services like this where you can have super follows
37:13-37:18
You can you can have premium content for people you follow you can have other there’s a lot of
37:18-37:22
for creators YouTube has or
37:22-37:25
Yeah, Twitter has stuff like this
37:25-37:31
So maybe this is something that snapchat’s going to try as well to bring in some additional revenue and to target content creators
37:31-37:33
I could see that
37:33-37:39
But like I said, I know I would I’m thinking that this is gonna be a pet a competitor in the space like what Twitter
37:39-37:41
Plus has which is where you have
37:41-37:43
For content creators
37:43-37:49
I mean it could be me it could even be at the Twitter like a Twitter blue kind of service that possible or it could be
37:49-37:54
Like a content thing like super followers and stuff of that where you’d pay
37:54-37:58
A few dollars a month and you get additional content could go either way
37:58-38:00
I’m thinking that’s what’s gonna be a lot of people saying well
38:00-38:04
It might be video premium might be they might be came to video space like Apple TV or something
38:04-38:09
I just I don’t see them getting into that space yet. I mean I can’t I don’t think they’re not going to but I just don’t
38:09-38:13
See that I’m thinking it’s going to be like it’s more of like a maybe a Twitter blue or a
38:13-38:20
Or like a super follow or something like that where where they target the content creators to try to get it out
38:20-38:24
So I’m not sure but that’s there is something they’re working on there
38:24-38:27
And I actually really curious about that to be honest with you
38:27-38:33
And then I think I said I think that’s really as far as as far as things go the last piece of news
38:33-38:36
I kind of saved that for the end the snapchat thing because I thought that’s kind of cool
38:36-38:42
I think you’re gonna see I actually do think I really do think you’re going to see something like a
38:42-38:46
Facebook plus not not not ad free
38:46-38:53
But I think you’re going to see like where you in the creator space where you can you should you follow somebody on Facebook?
38:53-38:55
but you can have like a super follow or
38:55-39:02
You get premium content or something like that or add free content from like if you wanted to say like just use a sample
39:02-39:06
Select the New York Times they won’t but I’m saying it or the USA say whatever
39:06-39:10
If you like if you like their page and you want to see all their articles with no ads
39:10-39:13
It’s like five six books a month on Facebook
39:13-39:16
We have to go through Facebook to do it like can I get to do like with Twitter blue
39:16-39:18
You have to go through Twitter to see the article to not get the ads
39:18-39:21
I can see some Facebook doing something like that because
39:21-39:29
There was reports when when when meta announced their earnings the other day the same that they’re seeing less and less
39:32-39:34
General
39:34-39:38
Finance is being generated from Facebook and Instagram’s carrying more and more the load
39:38-39:42
It’s a good thing. It’s a really good thing Facebook bought Instagram because
39:42-39:48
Instagram is carrying a lot more the financial load for Facebook than it then ever before so
39:48-39:52
That was a great purchase by Mark Zuckerberg years ago
39:52-39:55
What’s up as well as even doing a lot more of the
39:57-40:04
Well, it’s not really but they’re they’re expanding what’s apt to be more of a revenue generator now where it whenever was before so there’s
40:04-40:11
Facebook definitely made good decisions by buying those things to expand out and I’m not sure Oculus
40:11-40:13
They don’t really talk about much Oculus in there and there are news report
40:13-40:15
I’m curious how if if in any
40:15-40:18
Oculus is and obviously they’re pushing the metaverse pretty hard. So
40:18-40:22
We’ll have to like so we’ll see what happens with that. But yeah, that was a
40:22-40:25
Other that was an interesting article. I’m curious to see what snapchats gonna do that
40:25-40:30
Like I like seeing those those kind of things. I don’t know. I just I like seeing what these new subscription services are for
40:30-40:35
I was like testing out new services just to see what they’re about. I did have Twitter blue for a while
40:35-40:38
I did have I’ve tried all the most services just because
40:38-40:43
That’s just you know when you report on these things. You kind of got to know how they work
40:43-40:48
So I want to get to the questions here quickly not only a couple of them again
40:48-40:53
If you have any tech problems send your questions to the admin at the technology
40:54-40:55
org
40:55-40:57
somebody had sent me a question and
40:57-41:00
they had asked
41:00-41:05
Let’s read the question. I’m not gonna say the person is unless you want me to say who you are
41:05-41:08
I’m not gonna say it on the air. So just just know that I will read the question
41:08-41:12
But I will not read where the email or I will not read the name or who the email is
41:12-41:15
So don’t be afraid of that
41:15-41:17
The person says my daughter’s going to college
41:17-41:20
And I wanted to get her
41:21-41:24
An iPad wondering what I should get her
41:24-41:27
She’s into graphics design
41:27-41:34
And she does have we do have some money put aside to buy her something was wondering what you what would be the best thing to buy
41:34-41:38
Possibly an iPad she had said
41:38-41:45
You know, I’m I’m gonna I’m gonna I have to say this whatever you’re going to buy her
41:45-41:50
She’s saying the iPad she knows what she wants to do so I would say I always say
41:51-41:58
Especially to parents that you know what they want to do. So, you know, let them tell you what they think in her case. I would say
41:58-42:04
iPad my I’m excuse me iPad definitely get the pencil the pencil with any iPad
42:04-42:09
If you are going to get her an iPad, you’re gonna want to go look at there’s a lot of different sizes with the iPads
42:09-42:13
Um, I would say probably the pro with the M1
42:13-42:19
Would probably be what I’d recommend for her to be honest with you something with the M1 because she’s gonna get the best fastest processor
42:20-42:26
Um, there are going to be probably M2 iPads coming out soon if they’re not out already
42:26-42:31
So then I don’t think are out yeah, right, but they are gonna be coming out
42:31-42:34
I think Apple did announce they’re gonna have some new iPads coming out. So
42:34-42:37
I would say
42:37-42:39
you’re gonna want to look at
42:39-42:45
What what iPad she wants versus what I I would say the iPad pro is probably gonna be the way you’re want to go
42:46-42:50
And you’re gonna want to get her the pencil with it the pencil will work with anything, but I would definitely go with the pro
42:50-42:53
The bigger screen. I have the the regular
42:53-42:57
um, I have the regular iPad iPad air personally
42:57-43:00
but um
43:00-43:05
I would definitely if I would I would definitely go with now the air. Yeah, right. I’m sorry. I didn’t want to ask the air
43:05-43:08
Does have the M1 chip in it too
43:08-43:10
so I would say but the
43:10-43:14
The pro has better cameras if she’s going to take pictures of that she made the shoes are falling but
43:15-43:16
um
43:16-43:18
So there’s that
43:18-43:24
But like I said, I would go I probably if I was me person I was buying for my daughter. I would definitely go pro
43:24-43:27
Um, I know it’s going to be a little more money
43:27-43:29
But I would go pro
43:29-43:35
Personally, uh, she’s going to have a lot more space. She can go up to two terabytes on the pros for our space goes compared to 256
43:35-43:41
Um, I have even the earlier iPad air. So if it has even less storage in it, we’ll just find I don’t really download much on it
43:41-43:45
I’ve got the 64 bit the 64 gig model, but they have a 256 now
43:45-43:52
But with the the pros you can go like 512 a terabyte. I mean obviously the more you get the more expensive it gets but
43:52-43:58
Um, I would definitely say if you’re looking at it, I would say look at the pro. It’s a bigger screen
43:58-44:02
Uh, I think a little bit better refresh rate actually on the screen
44:02-44:06
Yeah, it’s at the liquid it’s going it’s liquid rec and HDR display
44:06-44:11
Uh, you know, it’s got a higher resolution than even the newest air with the 27 by 32
44:12-44:17
Uh, you know, the refresh rate’s a little better on it. I would that was got promotion technology and stuff like that
44:17-44:20
I would definitely
44:20-44:23
I would definitely go pro if she wants the iPad. I definitely go with the pro personally
44:23-44:28
Uh, yeah, I mean the pencil would work with the air anyways. I have got the air too and I use the pencil but
44:28-44:32
Um, I would say just go with the pro if you’re gonna do it
44:32-44:36
I mean, I know it’s a little more money, but you’re talking night and day for her
44:36-44:42
I would also make sure you buy her some cloud storage iPad so she can back up her stuff in case something needs to happen to the iPad
44:42-44:48
Uh, she’s gonna be doing video editing going out with the field. I would say you definitely get the apple care for a few bucks a month
44:48-44:54
And I’m saying literally I think it’s like three four bucks a month for an iPad. I would get the you know, so I that’s what I would do personally
44:54-45:00
Um, but like I think it’s really up to you if she wants a laptop. I would still go with mac
45:00-45:02
I would go with an m1 don’t go with the intel
45:03-45:07
Um, or the or I would even go with the macbook pro to be honest with if it was may
45:07-45:10
But I think she’s in the right. I think if she wants the iPad go with the pro
45:10-45:14
She wants a a laptop go with the macbook pro the stuff
45:14-45:20
You can go 14 or 16 inch. I always think bigger bigger something like that the bigger screen playing better for but it’s up to her
45:20-45:27
Uh, she may want to go with even the um the iMac with the screen that could be an option too
45:27-45:31
Um, that’s gonna be a little bit cheaper for but it’s not going to be as good as the pro
45:31-45:36
I don’t think so I would go with either I would give it go the ipad pro or a or a mac book pro
45:36-45:40
If she’s already talking about the pencil, she’s probably gonna eat the pencil doesn’t work with a mac
45:40-45:46
So you would have to get the a mac pro and then you’d have to get like a ycom tab a walk-on tablet
45:46-45:49
Or if she got both the pad the ipad
45:49-45:55
And the uh and the macbook pro she could use the the ipad as the the walk-on tablet
45:55-46:00
So there’s a lot of things you could do there, but definitely if I would go with anything I would definitely go m1
46:01-46:02
um
46:02-46:06
And and I would definitely if you’re gonna go ipad I’d go pro because she’s gonna need the extra space
46:06-46:08
and the other question we got was
46:08-46:11
From somebody asking me what?
46:11-46:17
Again, I’m not gonna. I don’t say the name or the email address, but question is what uh
46:17-46:26
What model laptop I think they mean manufacturer because it’s written. I think they spelling issue, but uh, what may it’s supposed to be
46:26-46:29
I think manufacturer model. Do you recommend? I think it was that there was in anyway
46:30-46:31
um
46:31-46:34
So the I would go personally
46:34-46:38
Years ago I would have said stay away from del stay away for but I would say go
46:38-46:45
Go to HP but to be honest with you with the way things have been right now and the way the last couple years the luck I’ve had
46:45-46:50
I would say go del and lenovo in the pc space honestly del and lenovo
46:50-46:53
I’ve had a lot of luck with del I’ve had a lot of luck with the novo over the years
46:53-46:56
Uh, so I would say go del or lenovo
46:56-46:57
Without a doubt
46:57-47:01
I’ve had like I said I’ve had a lot of good luck with them. They’re well made good build quality
47:01-47:02
um
47:02-47:07
You know times have changed michael del really turned the company around and the quality of the products has been great
47:07-47:10
and uh, like I said lenovo as well their quality the quality of their products has been uh
47:10-47:16
Really really good. I would actually recommend staying away from hp. I see a lot of hp’s coming for repair with
47:16-47:23
Bad system boards and stuff like that. So I would I would stay away from the hp stuff and go uh lenovo or del
47:23-47:26
and as far as the uh
47:26-47:31
And obviously if you wanted to stay away from pc obviously you can always call mac and anything mac is always quality
47:31-47:33
um
47:33-47:35
So I would I would you know, that’s another option you could do
47:35-47:41
If you want to stay away from pc I would say, you know, you go with the mac if you if and like I said you’re asking me
47:41-47:46
What model I recommend for a computer. So I’m just saying I would either go definitely lenovo
47:46-47:52
each go lenovo del or um a mac to be honest with you their
47:52-47:55
reliability they’re going to be the best for you
47:55-48:01
And as far as windows go, I would say your minds will go 11 because you know, you got maybe three years left on 10
48:01-48:03
um
48:03-48:05
So you might want to just jump into 11 now and
48:05-48:07
You don’t deal with it
48:07-48:12
So I want to thank everybody for listening. Like I said, as always you can catch all of our old shows at thetechnologygeek.org
